[My Adventure]
It’s 2009.
I’m a college student preparing for a semester abroad in Europe. I’ve saved $5,000 from a grueling summer job, stacking heavy pallets of electrical equipment in a scorching warehouse. That money was supposed to be my travel fund.
Until it wasn’t…
The week before my flight, I made a rookie mistake. I put 75% of my savings into stock options, thinking I could make a quick profit. I had no idea what I was doing. Within hours, it was all gone.
That’s when I learned a harsh lesson about risk and diversification.
Fast forward to when I was 28.
I had just graduated with an MBA. Sitting on my parents’ back porch, I started reflecting on my journey. I had a fancy investment certification, an Ivy League degree, and had climbed the ranks in consulting. I was following the playbook society tells you leads to success.
Yet, there I was—jobless and staring down $200,000 in student debt.
Maybe I didn’t have it all figured out after all.
Maybe I’d made a huge mistake.
Two things hit me hard in that moment:
Debt is crushingly stressful.
Chasing society’s version of success is a losing game.
So I decided to shift my focus.
I redefined what success looked like for me.
I got clear on the actions needed to achieve it.
And most importantly, I just started. No overthinking, no overcomplicating.
Today, I’m in my mid-30s.
I’ve climbed out of that deep hole of debt and made my way toward financial freedom. The blueprint I followed was simple:
I supercharged my income at my 9-to-5.
Lived within my means.
Avoided piling on more debt.
Invested consistently in the market.
Swing traded volatile assets during key market cycles.
At 19, I experienced the sting of losing almost everything in the market.
At 28, I was buried in six-figure debt and doubted if I’d ever break free.
But I had one thing going for me—I never gave up.
I always knew I wanted to live life on my terms, with the freedom to spend my time how I chose.
Now I do.
